Ruffled Notes & Armored Romance: Zentow & C'est Nous | Veyra Weekly Vol. 33

Veyra Weekly – Vol. 33

This week, Veyra Weekly highlights two brands exploring ornamentation, identity, and romantic expression — the handcrafted maximalism of Zentow and the armored elegance of C'est Nous.

Zentow – Custom Musical Note Caps

South Korea's Zentow transforms everyday headwear into highly expressive objects through a combination of ruffles, lace, buttons, and sculptural embellishment. Their custom cap series feels deeply rooted in underground J-fashion, balancing playful decoration with meticulous hand-crafted construction.

Across multiple colorways and fabric treatments, a recurring musical note motif anchors the collection. Rather than functioning as simple graphics, these notes become dimensional design elements surrounded by plaid ruffles, delicate lace trims, padded fabric structures, and dense clusters of gathered textiles.

One version pairs a muted grey tartan base with frayed plaid ruffles that frame a fabric note, creating an archival, thrifted aesthetic. Another uses black canvas and vintage-inspired white lace surrounding dual musical notes, complemented by mismatched buttons and floral embellishments. A third iteration pushes volume further through padded note construction, dense cream ruffles, and oversized floral forms that almost transform the cap into a wearable sculpture.

What makes the collection particularly compelling is its embrace of intentional excess. Buttons, flowers, lace, and layered textures accumulate across the surface, creating the distinctive "heavy-top" silhouette often associated with contemporary underground Japanese fashion communities.

Rather than treating decoration as an afterthought, Zentow places ornament at the center of the design process.

C'est Nous – Belted Cross Embroidered Dress

C'est Nous approaches femininity through contrast. Their Belted Cross Embroidered Dress combines lace, chiffon, and tulle with integrated belts and metal hardware, creating a silhouette that feels simultaneously delicate and protective.

Built from classic lace fabric spliced with chiffon, the dress features layered ruffles, floating ribbons, and an uneven hemline that introduce constant movement throughout the garment. The soft grey palette reinforces the romantic atmosphere while allowing the construction details to remain the focus.

The most striking element is the incorporation of non-removable leather belts. Rather than functioning as accessories, the belts become structural components of the dress itself, creating tension between softness and restraint. C'est Nous describes the concept as using lace as a woman's armor, and the contrast is immediately visible.

At the neckline, cross embroidery references vintage romantic fashion while symbolizing redemption and inner strength. Combined with the flowing ribbons and layered textures, the dress balances vulnerability with confidence.

The result is a garment that feels both ethereal and commanding — romantic fashion reinforced through structure rather than diminished by it.
